Pair of Armorial Porcelain Sauce Boats with the Arms of Matheson, Jingdezhen, China, c. 1765. Each molded oblong bowl with shaped undulating rim continuing to an applied coil handle opposite the attenuated spout, below which are painted the crest of MATHESON, Out of an eastern crown a dexter hand brandishing a scimitar, encircled by a ribboned chain of blue bellflowers above a pink banner inscribed, 'Fac et spera' (Do and hope) in gold, the walls depicting floral sprays in famille rose enamels, the rim and foot of the flaring pedestal base penciled with spearhead and chain borders in gilded sepia enamel, wd. 8 7/8, dp. 3 3/4, ht. 3 3/8 in.
