The silvered glass mounted under patterned giltwood cavetto liner in deep, bead-molded and mitered surround, the edges trimmed with applied strapwork moldings including a pierced crest centering a parchment scrolled around a quill pen, inscribed 'JAN. 1\ST / 1863.' below laurel wreath and above broken chains, the bottom intaglio-carved with Union shield flanked by crossed banners, overall, wd. 23, dp. 1 5/8, ht. 25 1/2 in.
