A SMALL INLAID FOUR-TIER LACQUER KŌBAKO (BOX FOR INCENSE) Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century Rectangular with rounded corners lacquered in gold, silver, and red hiramaki-e and takamaki-e on a nashiji ground, decorated on the top with an inlaid silver horse escaping from a gilt-metal spider's web, the sides with friezes of lotus flowers, scattered cherry blossoms and maple leaves, and geese afloat on flowing waters, the interiors nashiji, the interior of the bottom case lined in metal, the rims pewter 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 3in (8.3 x 5.7 x 7.6cm) Footnotes: Provenance Previously sold at Christie's, New York, September 17, 1997, lot 93 For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
