A SOMADA-STYLE INLAID-LACQUER BOX Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th/late 19th century The black-lacquer rectangular box with a flat, kabusebuta (overhanging) lid with rounded chiri-i ledges, decorated on the upper surface with a sennin (immortal) and an attendant in inlays of iridescent shell, the edges of the lid bordered with inlaid twisted wire, the sides with precious emblems, the underside of the lid decorated with a boatman paddling a skiff carrying the kakuremino (cloak of invisibility) and the kakuregasa (hat of invisibility), attributes of the Shichifukujin, the Seven Gods of Good Fortune 9 1/2 x 8 3/4 x 1 7/8in (24.1 x 22.2 x 4.7cm) Saleroom notices: Please note this box was made by the Zōhiko studio and is sealed on the underside Zōhiko For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
