A GROUP OF LACQUER ITEMS RELATED TO INCENSE Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era, late 19th/ 20th century Comprising a set of three kōgō of rhomboid shape, each decorated on the lid with cloud-shaped reserves raised in relief containing pastoral scenes in gold and black hiramamki-e and togidashi maki-e, the surrounding area Gyōbu-nashiji and the sides of the boxes kinji, the interiors and bases nashiji, all set on a fitted tray set on three bracket feet decorated on the upper surface with open and closed fans with floral designs in gold hiramaki-e on a nashiji ground with kinji and Gyōbu-nashiji embellishments; A fan-shaped kōgō decorated with a courtier's cap, a branch of maple leaves and other scattered leaves in gold and red hiramaki-e on a roiro-nuri ground, the upper surface of the lid finished in mokume, the interior and base nashiji; A faceted octagonal lacquer incense burner set on a splayed foot tapering to the neck, decorated with open and closed fans in gold and silver hiramaki-e on a nashiji ground, the woven cover silver, fitted with silvered metal liner 5 3/4in (14.6cm) wide, the largest (3).
