Footnotes: Provenance: Collection of Mary Shreve (Ames) Frothingham (1867-1955) Mary Shreve (Ames) Frothingham (1867-1955) was born in Easton, Massachusetts, into the prominent Ames family. Her grandfather, Oliver Ames Jr. (1807-1877), was President of the Union Pacific Railroad from 1868 to 1871. Mary was known for her extensive involvement with the Red Cross, serving as President of its Easton Branch from World War I through World War II. Her Georgian Revival mansion, Wayside, built in 1912, now serves as the Easton town offices. For an eight-panel screen similarly inset with blue and white plaques depicting landscapes and figures, 19th century, see one sold in our London rooms, 14 May 2015, lot 281. In the present screen, a selection of the plaques bear a strong resemblance to a blue and white 'landscape' plaque, Kangxi period, from the Jie Rui Tang Collection, sold at Sotheby's, New York, 19 March 2019, lot 304.
