AN EMBROIDERED SILK FOUR-PANEL FOLDING SCREEN Meiji era (1868-1912), early 20th century Embroidered in variously coloured floss silk threads in palette of browns, red, green and yellow, depicting thatched dwellings nestled in a bamboo grove along a lake, with a wood bridge in the distance and a moored boat in the foreground, the reverse covered in woven silk, each panel within a black-lacquered wood frame fitted with the lower panels painted with kumazasa (Veitch's bamboo), the panels joined with three quadruple silk-ribbon hinges (the middle panels not connected), unsigned. Overall: 259cm x 171cm (102in x 67 5/16in); each panel overall: 64.5cm x 171cm (25 3/8in x 67 5/16in); each embroidery image: 57cm x 129cm (22 7/16in x 50 x 13/16in). (2).
