AN INLAID BRASS ROUNDED RECTANGULAR KORO (INCENSE BURNER) AND COVER Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century The body inlaid in copper, gilt and shibuichi, decorated with a sparrow flying over a shrub of flowering tsuwabuki (Japanese silverleaf) on one side and a kawasemi (kingfisher) flying over stalks of flowering narcissi on the other, the cover pierced and inlaid in flat relief of gilt and bronze with auspicious motifs including choji (clove), fundo (weight), kakure mino (a cloak of invisibility), kakure kasa (a hat of invisibility), gold coins, jewels, and a peony blossom, surmounted by a finial of four dragon heads with their mouths pressed on a tama (jewel); unsigned. 20cm x 16cm (7 7/8in x 6¼in).
