AN IMARI 'HUNDRED BOYS' CHARGER Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Decorated in enamels and gilt, the central well with a procession of brightly-dressed karako (Chinese boys) playing with two puppies surrounded by a vibrant scene depicting more karako (Chinese boys) engaged in various activities including the 'Four Accomplishments' of making music on the qin, playing go, calligraphy, and painting, interspersed with three round panels each enclosing Hotei humorously attempting to wrap and carry a group of karako within the folds of his sack; the underside painted in underglaze blue with six roundels enclosing horses. 8cm x 48.4cm (3 1/8in x 19 1/16in).
