An Italian patinated bronze figure of the Dancing Faun with Cymbals Probably Naples, late 19th/early 20th century The nude figure standing in contrapposto with cymbals in both hands, his right foot resting on a foot bellow, his left leg beside a rustic tree trunk, raised on an oval shallow plinth base, 56cm high, 29cm wide, 22cm deep Footnotes: The Dancing Faun or Faun with the Clappers is perhaps one of the most prized sculptures remaining from antiquity. Carved in marble and now housed at the Uffizi in Florence, the work had established itself in the public's consciousness to such an extent by the late 18th century that it was featured in the celebrated painting by Johann Joseph Zoffany (1733-1810) entitled 'The Tribuna of the Uffizi', dating from 1772-1777 and now in the Royal Collection.
