The Scelta de XXIV Vedute was commissioned by his patron Marchese Andrea Gerini with the aim of presenting the most beautiful views and aspects of Florentine life. These were executed by several engravers and the work was dedicated to Maria Theresa of Austria, who was born in Florence. The series was widely admired and became a template for similar views of other cities such as Venice and Rome.
