George Perfect Harding (London circa 1780-1853) The Duke Humphrey Triptych, comprised of three panels showing Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester; Archbishop Kemp; and Cardinal Beaufort the central panel signed 'G P Harding.fecit' (lower centre) watercolour and gouache heightened with gold on paper each panel 9.5 x 23cm (3 3/4 x 9 1/16in). framed: 55 x 65cm framed as one Footnotes: Harding was a Regency copyist mainly known for his miniature watercolour replicas of earlier portraits. The present work is a copy of a painting by a Flemish artist of circa 1500 that originally comprised the doors of a shrine in the Abbey at Bury St Edmunds. The original painted doors came into the collection of Sir Horace Walpole in 1777 but were sold after his death in the Strawberry Hill sale of 1842 and now hang in the Church of All Hallows by the Tower, City of London. Harding is known to have visited Strawberry Hill between 1810 and 1815 during the residency of Walpole's goddaughter, the sculptor Anne Damer, when he did several copies of the Gothic works housed there. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
