Through layers of figuration, precise and decorative patterning, and veils of spray paint, Lux produces highly original paintings and his large-scale, site-specific murals. Working from a library of references, Lux's compositions call forth various histories of visual culture including but not limited to illuminated manuscripts, religious reliquaries, applied arts, Old Masters, as well as hard edge painting, and contemporary graffiti. Intertwined figures drawn from life interact with objects and environment; hidden within the shadows are spirits, masks, and peeping faces. Lux's paintings evoke stories of the past, present, and future; each one an entirely unique amalgam of the Western tradition of art making and material culture.
