OLIVIA HILL (B. 1985) Castle With Puddle, 2023 signed, titled and dated (on the reverse) oil and acrylic on canvas 14 x 11 in. 35.6 x 27.9 cm. Footnotes: Provenance Courtesy of the artist Artist statement: In Olivia Hill's paintings she explores the landscape and its artificial features as a conduit for introspection on humanity's place in the cosmos. Beyond painting with brush on canvas she pours, splatters and stamps paint to evoke geological settlement, plant life and the particulate essence of everything from the stars in the sky to grains of sand. The imagery oscillates between sweeping panoramas and aerial views to extreme close- ups of isolated objects or phenomena, both perspectives illuminating the harmonies and discordant tensions in our relationship with the natural world. Hill's body of work encompasses a diverse range of subjects, woven together in a narrative tapestry. Each element beckons the viewer to contemplate the interconnectedness of beings and elements across time and space. For The Venice Family Art Walk and Auction Hill has contributed a painting of a plastic sandcastle mould, which seen in the broader context of her work, represents the taming and homogenization of Earth's wilderness.
