STEVEN PORTIGAL (20th/21st Century) Untitled, 2023-24 signed (on the reverse) wood, stone, metal and found media 23 x 4 x 3 in. 58.4 x 10.2 x 7.6 cm. Footnotes: Provenance Courtesy of the artist Artist statement: The sculptures that Steven Portigal is currently creating in his studio are the result of many years of contemplation about the current state of our planet. He has chosen to work in a way that uses as little carbon as possible. For example: the wood employed is all salvaged from construction sites within walking or biking distance of his home in Culver City. Same with the rusted metal—all found in and around his home. He is always looking for ways to make it more environmentally friendly. Given that, this work is a commentary on current events and concerns.
