Anonymous Mandala of figures encre et couleurs sur papier ink and colour on paper 40 x 39 cm (15 3/4 x 15 3/8 in) Footnotes: Veuillez noter que ce lot sera vendu sans réserve Provenance Acquired by the present owner from Mangku Mura and Mangku Muriati in Bali between 1998-2003 Private collection, Europe Kamasan painting, a form of Balinese heritage art which originated in Kamasan village in the 16th century, recounts sacred stories through its symbolic visual language. Depicting narrative panels of the Hindu epics and folklore through the use of natural pigments, this artistic tradition is integral to Balinese spiritual life, with the paintings adorning temples and homes during ceremonies. The iconography and cultural lexicon which characterise this style of painting are quintessentially Balinese, thus making it a cornerstone of the island's artistic identity and a bridge between the divine and the everyday.
