A Chelsea strawberry leaf bowl, circa 1753 Of faceted leaf shape with a stalk handle, the underside moulded with a strawberry plant, the leaves forming four feet, the interior painted in kakiemon style with an exuberant spray of lotus, chrysanthemum and peony amongst grass picked out in red, yellow, green and blue, two fantastic birds and an insect in flight above, the exterior with scattered sprigs and tiny flowerheads, 20.2cm long Footnotes: A similar bowl decorated with European flowers and insects from the Dr Paul Riley Collection was exhibited by Brian Haughton Antiques, Splendour of a Golden Age (2004), no.12.
