A near pair of Derby 'Pale Family' sweetmeat figures, circa 1756-58 Modelled as a gallant and his companion, both seated and with large baskets in their laps, the basket interiors and their costumes finely painted with flowers in 'cotton stem' style, he wearing a pink frock coat lined in yellow, she wearing a puce jacket with yellow florets around the neckline, raised on scrolled bases applied with flowers and picked out in puce, green and yellow, 16.5cm and 17cm high, patch marks (2) Footnotes: A pair holding shell-shaped baskets is illustrated by Dennis G Rice, Derby Porcelain (1983), p.101, pl.47.
