A pair of Flight Worcester 'Royal Lily' dishes, circa 1788-90 Probably from the breakfast service made for George III and Queen Charlotte, of fluted circular shape, painted in blue with the 'Royal Lily' pattern with added gold borders and red line rims, 23.3cm wide, special crowned crescent marks in gold (2) Footnotes: When George III and Charlotte visited Worcester in 1788, they ordered a breakfast set of the Lily pattern, and thereafter the factory named it Royal Lily in their honour. In 2004 a portion of a breakfast service was discovered in the West Country bearing the highly unusual mark of a crowned crescent in gold. It is logical to assume that these pieces, of the highest quality, formed part of the original 1788 royal order. See an article by Richard Burt, The Melting Pot, No.11 (Autumn 2007), pp.6-9. Other pieces from the same service with the special gold mark were sold by Bonhams on 31 March 2010, lot 314, 18 May 2011, lots 353-354 and 2 November 2011, lot 133.
