Five Staffordshire figures of Daniel O'Connell of Irish political interest, mid-19th century Modelled standing wearing frock coats, comprising three large figures standing bareheaded with their right hands on their hips, their left hands resting on draped pedestals, two titled 'Dan O'Connell' in gilt script to the bases, one titled 'D O CONNELL' in raised black lettering to the base, together with two small examples, one wearing a broad-brimmed hat and clasping a speech in his right hand, the other bare-headed, holding a scroll in his left hand, 14.3-44cm high (5) Footnotes: Literature Audrey Dudson and Alison Morgan, Dudson Staffordshire Figures (2006), p.109, fig.195 (figure titled in black) Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847), hailed as 'The Liberator', was the first great Irish Nationalist leader of the 19th century and the principal advocate for Catholic Emancipation in Ireland.
