A pair of Wedgwood black basalt ewers, late 18th or early 19th century Of classical 'olpe' form, each with a high handle and a smaller supporting handle applied to the generous belly of the vase, 23cm high, impressed WEDGWOOD (2) Footnotes: Wedgwood produced similar shapes after Greek and Roman originals, often embellishing these with his patented 'encaustic' decoration. The present lot has been left plain, showing off the fine and glossy black body.
