Isfahan Fragment Iran c. 17th century, has a unique 'shag' backing. This does not appear to be restoration but neither does it seem original. It is as if someone started to make a shag rug out of it- weaving long strands of wool through the wefts on the back to make it like a Tulu. This 'shag' wool even appears to be naturally dyed. An utterly confounding, and extremely early, Persian rug fragment. A quintessential Dixon piece. Provenance: The Jim Dixon Collection 2 ft. 4 in. x 6 ft.
