Joshua Aubrook 'Cristoforo 6' vessel, 2022 Majolica glazed earthenware, hand-thrown body with sculpted additions. 20.5 x 23 x 25 cm Underside incised Joshua AuBrook 2022. Footnotes: 'The Cristoforo collection is inspired by the artwork of the Italian Renaissance miniaturist Cristoforo De Predis. De Predis paintings of Biblical scenes are idealistic, allowing both emotion and tone to eclipse depictive accuracy. The painting 'Death of the Sun, Moon and Stars Falling' (circa 1460) inspired Aubrook to create ceramic vessels which belong within this broken landscape. The Cristoforo vessels are decorated with the debris of a fallen sky, collecting around the collars of each piece like ash.
