Two steel-engraved portrait frontispieces of Stanley, 3 folding maps, numerous illustrations. Publisher's brown morocco. Spines slightly sunned, minor toning. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, WITH DELUXE BINDING. One of the last great Expeditions to Africa of the 19th century recounting Stanley's famous British expedition, 1887-89, to rescue the German-born Emin Pasha.
