SIGNED FIRST EDITION OF SUTTREE FROM THE COLLECTION OF ANNIE DELISLE. MCCARTHY, CORMAC. 1933-2023. Suttree. New York: Random House, 1979. 8vo. Publisher's black cloth-backed yellow paper boards, 'CM' monogram gilt to upper cover, spine lettered in gilt, publisher's printed dust jacket. Provenance: Anne Delisle. FIRST EDITION SIGNED BY MCCARTHY TO THE HALF-TITLE, A FINE BRIGHT COPY FROM THE COLLECTION OF ANNE DELISLE. According to Annie, and the New York Times, Annie typed the manuscript for Suttree (while they were separated). It may be this help McCarthy refers to in his warm inscription in her copy of Child of God (see lot xxx). Arguably his Magnum Opus, Suttree was called '... a book with rude, startling power and a flood of talk... [McCarthy] gives us a sense of river life that reads like a doomed 'Huckleberry Finn'' (Jerome Charyn in The New York Times, 1979). It represents the last of his Tennessee novels, and would be followed by Blood Meridian in 1985, reflecting McCarthy's literal and physical move west.
