MARTINEZ DE ESPINAR, ALONSO. 1588-1682. Arte de ballestería y montería escrita con methodo para escusar la fatiga que ocasiona la ignorancia. Madrid: Imprenta Real, 1644. 4to (197 x 138 mm). Engraved and letterpress title pages, 2 engraved portraits, 4 (of 5) engraved plates by Johannes van Noordt, woodcut head- and tailpieces. Contemporary limp vellum, inked titles on spine, later vellum ties at edges. Some soiling and warping to vellum, lacking first plate, portraits and plates closely trimmed at margins, a few paper repairs. FIRST EDITION, of this classic work on hunting and falconry, written at a time when firearms were not yet commonly used in hunting. The plates and Baroque title page by Flemish engraver Johannes van Noordt were among his finest and most important works. Harting 245; Palau 154967; Schwerdt II, 16; Souhart 319-320.
