Disbound, in 19th century cloth-covered board portfolio with fabric strap closure. Portfolio soiled and worn at corners, foxing, fraying and chipping to plate edges, ink stamps ('Musee de Sculpture') at recto margins and ownership stamps on verso of each plate (William Mooser, Architect, San Francisco). The complete set of plates from volumes 8 and 9 of the unfinished multi-volume work compiled by the Comte de Clarac, including those from Le Louvre et les Tuileries and Bas-reliefs antiques et modernes, autels, cippes funéraires, vases, candélabres, etc. du Musée du Louvre. Publication of the work began in 1826 and by the time the final volume was published in 1853, the Comte had run out of money and died, leaving it incomplete. In total, the work contained 1,136 plates detailing the sculptures of the Louvre and Tuileries gardens.
