RUBEN AND ISOBEL TOLEDO LETTERS TO ANNIE FLANDERS. TOLEDO, ISABEL. 1960-2019. 1.Autograph Letter Intialed ('R + I') to Annie Flanders thanking her for everything, and including figural sketches at left margin, 1 p, 8vo, New York, n.d. (but after 1984), on Details stationery. 2.ALS ('Ruben + Isabel Toledo'), to Annie Flanders thanking her for her recent hospitality, 1 p, 4to, NYC, February 1, 1993, with 6 yellow painted figures under text. 3.ALS ('The Toledos'), congratulating Flanders on a recent move, 1 p, 8 x 2.5 inches (200 x 63 mm), n.p., August 1989, with sketch at bottom of letter; housed in small card with original pen and ink of the sun on recto signed ('Isabel Toledo'). 4.Pen and ink sketch of 4 figures, 3.5 x 3 inches (89 x 76 mm), stamped Jan 29, on the verso of an Allright Parking valet ticket from 2404 Wilshire Blvd (the American Cement Building). With related ephemera, including program to Toledo's 1992-93 Fall-Winter Collection show and a color snapshot of Ruben and Isabel, 1980s. Cuban-American fashion designer Isabel Toledo (1960-2019) and her husband Ruben burst onto the New York art and fashion seen in 1984 when Isabel presented her first fashion collection at Danceteria. Soon her clothes were being sold at Barneys and other high-end boutiques around the globe. Except for a short stint as creative director of Anne Klein in 2006-7, Isabel helmed her own fashion line. Michelle Obama wore a Toledo design for Barack Obama's 2009 inauguration. Lot to be sold without reserve.
