Edward Malcolm (Mick) Brownlee (1929-2013) Maquette for Nai'a Kauhulu (Gathering of Dolphins) signed with the artist's initials 'E.M.B.', numbered '2/50' and foundry stamped (on the base) polished bronze and bronze with green patina 4 1/4 x 10 x 5 1/2 in. (10.8 x 25.4 x 14 cm) Footnotes: Provenance Estate of the artist. The present work is the maquette for the monumental sculpture that graces the Reflections pool at the Grand Wailea resort in Maui. The commission fulfilled the vision of original developer Takeshi Sekiguchi to create a resort inspired by six cultural and environmental influences of Maui — water, light, sound, flowers, trees and art. Brownlee is one of many significant artists represented in the collection, including Fernando Botero, Fernand Leger, Herb Kawainui Kāne, and Dale Chihuly, among others.
