THREE FAMILLE ROSE SNUFF BOTTLES Late Qing Dynasty Comprising: a flattened rounded snuff bottle with twin lion head handles painted in coloured enamels on either side with scenes from the subjugation of the rebellious Zhang Ge'er, the details heightened in gilt, the base with Yongle tang yan mark; a compressed rounded snuff bottle with circular panels depicting a five-clawed dragon on one side in iron red and two cockerels on the reverse; and a compressed pear-shaped bottle decorated with crabs, two stoppers 7.5cm (3in) high (5). Footnotes: 清晚期 粉彩鼻煙壺 三件 《永樂堂晏》款 Provenance: The 'crabs' bottle: Robert Hall, 23rd December 1966 (invoice) Yongle Tang is a princely hall mark which appears on porcelain snuff bottles in the Daoguang period. Here, the final character yan ('enjoy') suggests that this is the owner's hallmark, rather than the maker's.
