Three Spodumenes Kunar, Afghanistan Three specimens of spodumene from a locality that is currently one of the most prolific suppliers of this species. A tall twinned green spodumene var. hiddenite, measuring approximately 10.7 x 3 x 2.2 cm, and two pink crystals of the variety kunzite. One kunzite is a complete, heavily striated flat bladed crystal, measuring approximately 14.5 x 6.2 x 1 cm, the other is a long etched fragment, measuring approximately 11 x 3.3 x 2 cm. Spodumene is commonly found as remnants of crystals that have been etched, particularly along cleavage planes, by late-stage fluids. Such fragments are evidenced by the presence of etch pitting on all, especially cleavage, surfaces and should not be considered broken but the product of pegmatite evolution.
