Diopside Crystal Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mountains, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania Manyara Region, Tanzania This Diopside specimen is from the Tanzanian locality that produces Tanzanite, Merelani Hills. Merelani Hills has produced some of the finest Diopsides to come out of any place at any time. This specimen is a sharp, gem-quality lime-green single termination crystal. The quality of this Diopside is seldom encountered, especially considering the size of the crystal. Single crystals in this size frequently suffer from incomplete terminations due the brecciated and hydrothermally altered nature of the host rock, damage which this specimen has eluded. Coming out only in small batches from the world-famous locale of Merelani Hills, Diopsides such as this piece are sure to be remembered as some of the 'best of species,' once production becomes even more scarce.
