Apatite on Acrylic Base Crystal Lode pegmatite, Fulford Mining District, Eagle County, Colorado, USA The Apatites from Crystal Lode pegmatite represent a certain renown for the species for all of Colorado, being the best of the species coming out of the state. This specimen goes beyond just Colorado and warrants respect for all of the USA mined Apatites due to its unique saturated color and extremely large size. An almost fabled locality for decades with little production, several significant pockets were unearthed in the last 5 years and have changed the outlook on the significance for Apatites mined in the USA. Located deep in the mountains at a 10,000 foot elevation, this locale rivals some of the most rugged terrain for specimen collecting. Being a private artisan dig coming from an area with glacially compacted pockets and weather exposed ground it is nothing short of a miracle that this size of crystal has been unearthed and is intact with the quality presented.
