AN 18K GOLD MANUAL WIND CHRONOGRAPH WRISTWATCH Model: Compax Reference: 184.450 Date: c. 1990s Movement: 17-jewel Cal. 1874 manual wind, No. 4489449 Dial: Lemon, gilt baton hour marker, black 1/5th second divisions, subsidiary dials at 3, 6 and 9 for 30-minute, 12-hour recordings, and continuous seconds, gilt dauphine hands, black center chronograph hand Case: Round, display case back Strap/Bracelet: Brown leather Buckle/Clasp: 18k gold buckle, signed Signed: Case, dial, and movement Size: 35mm Accompaniments: None Footnotes: Universal Genève created its first chronograph wristwatch in 1917, and after eighteen years, they launched their first Compax models. While there are many variations to follow, the present reference 184.450 has an incredibly attractive 'Panda' dial for its off-white base with brown sub dials, which is very similar to the legendary Rolex 'Paul Newman' Daytona'. Like the 1980s reference 284.465 (lot 10), this is a truly rare opportunity to purchase one of the most desirable chronographs with well preserved condition such as this watch.
