Alexander McQueen (1969-2010) Gold Frock Coat, Spring 1997, 'La Poupée' Collection Cut in the style of an 18th century gentleman's frock coat, with single hook and eye fastening, turn up pointed cuffs and pockets Labelled size IT 42, chest 30', 92cm long Footnotes: The Spring 1997 'La Poupée' runway show, meaning 'The Doll' in French, was inspired by the work of German artist, Hans Bellmer (1902 -1975), known for his fetishistic sculptures and pictures of dismembered dolls. Models, including Kate Moss, Jodie Kidd, and Stella Tennant, walked down steps to be met by a pool of water, forming the runway. The looks included low-cut pants, tight suiting elements and macabre shift dresses that were translucent, fringed and uniquely dyed. To echo the work of Bellmer, McQueen's designs played with proportion, and metal elements were incorporated into the styling, creating an overall disjointed effect. Regarding the show, McQueen told Tim Blanks at the time, 'The vision was when Jesus walks on water, but I sort of lost the plot a bit and went somewhere else.'
