MADDOX (GEORGE, ARCHITECT) 'Prints from the Etchings Made by George Maddox, Professor of Architecture under whom I studied in 1834 at Furnival's Inn', 28 original etchings by Maddox (4 with 'Designed and etched by Geo. Maddox'), mounted one-per-page on album sheets recto only, mounting paper watermarked 1841, sizes or etchings between approximately 250 x 190mm., and 45 x 85mm., contemporary half maroon morocco over marbled boards, worn with some loss to spine, oblong 4to (235 x 290mm.), [c.1834-1841] Footnotes: Unusual album of etchings by the Welsh-born architect George Maddox (1760-1843), some-time assistant to John Soane, and who in early life had a successful career designing mostly private houses in a Neo-Classical style. In 1824 he was a founding member of the the Society of British Artists, and in later life earned a living teaching drawing at 7 Furnival's Inn, London, where his pupils including Decimus Burton and C.R. Cockerell. The etchings mostly depict, in a slightly 'naive' style, arrangements of old Classical statues and architectural fragments (one with wording 'Tombs', one 'Fragmenta'), some in a landscape setting.
