WORDSWORTH (WILLIAM) [AND SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE] Lyrical Ballads, with Other Poems, 2 vol., second edition of volume 1, FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE of volume 2, with last word of footnote to p.209 in the middle of the page, p.210 with 10 lines only, p.211 with 19 lines ending with 'he thought again', p.212 with 19 lines beginning with 'And his heart fail'd him', and 3 errata on final page, blank leaf C8 present, occasional spotting ( mainly to first and last few leaves of volume 2), blue calf by Riviere & Son, sides with triple gilt rule borders, gilt panelled spines with repeated floral tool, inner gilt dentelles, t.e.g., joints and edges rubbed, preserved in single blue cloth solander box with gilt lettered leather labels on front and spine [ESTC T146537; Wise, Wordsworth 5], 8vo (159 x 950mm.), T.N. Longman and O. Rees, 1800 Footnotes: FIRST COMPLETE EDITION OF 'LYRICAL BALLADS - THE PIONEERING WORK OF ENGLISH ROMANTIC POETRY. Lyrical Ballads was first published anonymously in 1798, containing eighteen poems by Wordsworth and four longer ones by Coleridge, most notably 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner'. The second edition followed two years later, this time attributed to Wordsworth, and was expanded into two volumes with the addition of volume one's famous Preface ('the revolutionary manifesto of the romantic poets of the next generation', PMM) and forty-one new poems in volume two.
