Bright November contains thirty-one poems, mostly written during wartime, and was published in September 1947 with the help and encouragement of his friend Philip Larkin. Although Amis went on to find fame as a novelist with Lucky Jim, he did not stop writing verse, and with Larkin joined the poetic group 'The Movement', through which he published his poems.
