A silver-inlaid alloy bidri box and footed tray Deccan, second half of the 19th Century the box of rectangular form with stepped lid surmounted by bud finial, the exterior decorated in silver inlay with floral and foliate interlace and a border made up of a foliate lattice; the tray of shallow octagonal form on six splayed feet, the interior decorated in silver inlay with floral and foliate interlace, surrounded by multiple octagonal borders of floral, foliate, and geometric motifs and cartouches containing large stylized poppy sprays the tray 28.5 x 22.4 cm., the box 11.9 x 8.4 x 10.4 cm.(2) Footnotes: The large stylized poppies in cartouches that feature on this footed tray are commonly found on bidri ware produced in Bidar in the mid to late nineteenth century. The poppy motif in profile, as seen on this box, is a variation often found in combination with the more frequent front-facing poppies during this period.
