A triptych, depicting the Virgin and Child, God the Father, Saint George, and scenes from the Passion Ethiopia, late 18th Century/19th Century oil on canvas, inscriptions in Ethiopic, framed central panel 50 x 40.5 cm.; side panels each 50.5 x 20 cm.(3) Footnotes: Provenance Private UK collection. Canvas paintings depicting religious subjects were typically stuck to the inner, mud and straw walls of churches. For two examples, dated circa 1800, see Sam Fogg, Art of Ethiopia, C.
