Zakariya bin Muhammad bin Mahmud al-Qazwini, Aja'ib al-makhluqat wa ghara'ib al-mujudat, The Wonders of Creation and Oddities of Existence, with 163 small illustrations of mythical and astrological beasts Provincial Persia, Turkman, late 15th Century Persian manuscript on paper, 357 leaves, incomplete and/or misbound, 17 lines to the page written in nasta'liq in black ink, significant words in red, inner margins ruled in gold and black, 163 small illustrations (mostly approximately 50 x 50 mm. or smaller) and seven astronomical or astrological diagrams, later red leather with central stamped medallions, perhaps Indian, 18th Century 235 x 135 mm. Footnotes: Provenance Private collection, London, since approximately the early 1990s. The front flyeaf bears a round late 15th century seal impression, not fully deciphered (it is not a royal seal). Later in the manuscript's life it was in India: there is a defaced Mughal seal impression and a later partly defaced note possibly of purchase from a certain Tahir Khan for 42 rupees dated 19 Shawwal [1]199 [?]/25th August 1785.
