An illustrated Hindu religious manuscript, with twelve paintings North India, mid-19th Century nagari manuscript on paper, 418 leaves, five lines to the page written in black ink with verse-divisions in orange, headings in gold, approximately 25 book or section headings with illuminated borders in colours and gold, inner margins ruled in red, orange and blue, twelve illustrations in gouache and gold, cloth binding 80 x 130 mm. Footnotes: Provenance Formerly in a private collection, Denmark. Private UK collection. The illustrations consist of: 1. A prince driven in a carriage by Vishnu. 2. Krishna in various guises with Radha. 3. Noble devotees before Vishnu on Garuda. 4. Vishnu reclining on the serpent Shesha with Brahma and Lakhshmi. 5. Siva and Parvati observing a bound man executed by an archer. 6. A courtier seated before a ruler giving audience. 7. Vishnu and Garuda rescuing the elephant king, Gajendra. 8. Hanuman before Rama and Sita. 9. Krishna fluting to the gopis. 10. Siva Panachana seated on a goose. 11. A group of nobleman seated before Krishna. 12. Panchashiras (Five-Headed) Hanuman, with the heads of Varaha, Garuda, Hanuman, Narasimha and Hayagriva.
