1955 Bianchi 125cc Mendola Project Registration no. PAS 696 (see text) Frame no. 158365 Engine no. 158365 Founded in the late 1890s, Bianchi made little impact outside Italy before WW2 despite an innovative approach which saw a team of unitary construction, twin-overhead-cam 350s entered in the 1926 Isle of Man TT, the design having first appeared in 1924. In the post-war period the company's road range consisted mainly of lightweights, the bulk of production being 175cc models like the Sandro Colombo-designed Tonale. Alongside the four-stroke Tonale Bianchi also sold a range of two-stroke 'flyweights', one of the most successful being the 125cc Mendola, which was a mainstay of the range during the mid-to-late 1950s. First registered in the UK on 20th June 1980, this particular Mendola was acquired by the vendor in December 2016, since when it has been dry stored as part of his extensive private collection. Some parts have been detached and others are missing, and so the machine is offered as a restoration project and sold strictly as viewed (the engine does not turn over). There is no registration document with this Lot, although the registration number 'PAS 696' is recorded in the HPI database. Accordingly, prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's registration status prior to bidding and, if successful, make an application to the DVLA to re-register it. It should be noted that the HPI check sheet incorrectly lists the engine number as 'ME186422'. Key not required Footnotes: All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.
