1957 Francis-Barnett 197cc Falcon 74 Registration no. HSU 993 Frame no. indecipherable (see text) Engine no. 070B 71201 (see text) After WW2 Francis-Barnett concentrated on the production of lightweight two-strokes powered firstly by Villiers engines, while from 1957 AMC's own power units were fitted to many models. In the early 1950s the Falcon used the Villiers 8E 197cc engine and by 1956 was being built with a swinging-arm frame, partially enclosed centre section and 18' wheels, the latter being introduced on the Model 74. A clerical error records the engine number as '070B 71210' (actually '070B 71201'). The vendor purchased the Falcon on 1st January 1996, since when it has been dry stored; recommissioning will be required before the machine returns to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed (the engine turns over). Nothing is known of the motorcycle's history other than the fact that the previous recorded keeper was a Mr Thomas Murdoch of West Lothian. The odometer reading is 8,390 miles. it should be noted that the prefix for the frame number is YM but the rest of the number is indecipherable. Key not required Footnotes: All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.
