Three Oiva Toikka Glass Cube Sculptures, Finland, 1983-1990, cube with pendant bubble, incised mark 'Oiva Toikka 255/2000, Nuutajarvi 1983' and maker's foil label, cube with clustered spheres, incised mark 'Ovia Toikka 596/2000 Nuutajarvi 1984' and maker's foil label, cube with fountain of white streamers, incised mark 'Ovia Toikka 556/2000 Nuutajarvi' and maker's foil label, all ht. 3 in. Note: Finish designer and sculptor, Oiva Toikka (1931-2019), trained as a ceramicist, but found that working in glass allowed him greater artistic satisfaction. After working for Arabia, he took his talents to the Nuutajarvi glass factory in the the early 1960s. There he designed several lines of glassware and cube sculptures, but he is best remembered for his birds. Starting in 1972, he created over 500 birds. Some are based on actual species and others drawn from a rich imagination. He received honors and awards from Swedish and Finnish governments. His work is held in many international museums.
