A large Italian 19th century Baroque revival walnut trestle or dining table The rectangular plank top on two opposing vertical end supports, each support carved with a pair of standing classical figures, fruiting foliate branches, scrolled foliage and S-scrolls with a shaped and C-scrolled cartouche centred by a heraldic device, terminating in egg-and-dart moulded plinth bases, joined by a double sided shaped C- and S-scroll, rocaille, foliate and split coat-of-arms carved stretcher hung with abundant pomegranates and fruiting foliate swags, centred by a cherubic mask, approximately: 274cm wide x 86cm deep x 83cm high, (107 1/2in wide x 33 1/2in deep x 32 1/2in high) Footnotes: Provenance Robert Milo Devereux, 18th Viscount Hereford (1932-2004), at Hampton Court, Herefordshire. Moved to Haseley Court, Oxfordshire, by the Viscount & Viscountess Hereford, 1972. Acquired by Mr & Mrs Desmond Heyward with the purchase of Haseley Court, 1982. Purchased by the current vendor, Christie's, London, 8 June 2021, Julians Park and Six Private Collections, lot 114. It is possible that this table originally formed part of the collection of Mrs Nancy Burrell at Hampton Court, Herefordshire, in the early 20th century. Many of the furnishings of Hampton Court were acquired by the 17th Viscount Hereford when Hampton Court was purchased from Mrs. Burrell in 1924. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
