Seven Ceramic Household Items and a Pair of Silver Sugar Nippers, England, late 18th/early 19th century. Assembled group includes one cobalt glaze-painted pearlware mug with molded base and handle; one globular porcelain teapot with chinoiserie bridge scene transfer-printed in blue on opposing walls, as well as on the associated dome lid; one pierced-rim basketweave pattern salt-glazed stoneware plate; one cobalt-painted and transfer-printed porcelain basket with pierced lattice walls and sprigged flower terminals, underglaze crescent mark painted on bottom; one enameled copper picture hanger or tieback with black-painted castle scene, initials IH pressed into backplate; one cream-colored earthenware tile overglaze printed in black with the scene, 'Ruined Portico with Two Female Figures' inside a square scroll frame, possible engraved signature at lower left; one small red earthenware tankard with silver luster glaze throughout; and one pair of small silver tongs with shell-form bowls and spurred loop handles, each impressed with 'RM' maker's mark and lion passant, (multiple repairs to pottery), mug, wd. 6 1/4, dp. 4 1/8, ht. 6 in. Note The teapot retains a note dated Sept 1973 and signed by Ivor Noël Hume (1927-2017), former Director of Archaeological Research at Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, stating that it was 'bought by J.P.S. at Portobello Road, London, 1960 for a few shillings.'
