Attributed to James Frothingham (American, 1786-1864). Portrait of Rebecca Howe Fiske, Concord, Massachusetts. Typed note associated with the portrait reads: 'Portrait of:- REBECCA HOWE FISKE Painted by Frothingham of Boston, Mass. about the year 1832. She was born at Concord, Mass.; married May 14, 1769 Benjamin Fiske of Fiske-Hill Concord Road, Lexington, Mass. He died February 1, 1785. Mother of Benjamin Fiske, born Lexington, August 20, 1774, died February 2, 1883. Grandmother of Charlese Fiske, born November 7, 1807, died at Cambridge, Mass. born November 7, 1807, died at Cambridge, Mass., February 19, 1899. Great-Grandmother of William Bridge Fiske, born Milford, Maine. On March 28, 1786, she married (second) Captain William Merriman of Bedford, Mass., and died at the advanced age of over 97 years, and was buried in the Fiske tomb in lot 203, in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Mass. In the corner of the canvas is seen the Fiske home on Fiske-Hill, where on the memorable day in April 1775, an engagement took place between the British and American forces with fatal results to those seen in the picture.'
