Transfer-printed 'Exotic Birds' Creamware Table Items, Josiah Wedgwood, Staffordshire, England, late 18th century. Assembled group includes two cups and saucers with molded shell border inside plain rim, the cups with extruded twist handles, overglaze printed in purple to depict birds in flight above grounded peacocks, a composite print popularly known as Liverpool Birds, each saucer impressed 'WEDGWOOD' on bottom, and each cup, 'Wedgwood'; together with a covered sugar bowl with reed-molded walls intersected by a plain band printed and enamel-painted with purple floral sprigs, bead borders at foot, shoulder, and rim painted with red and purple overglaze enamels, the recessed lid surmounted by purple-edged sprig-molded flower finial, base of bowl impressed 'WEDGWOOD' inside foot ring, (bowl) diam. 4 1/4, ht. 3 3/4 in.
