Mahogany Veneered Lap Desk, America, 19th century. The rectangular case veneered on all sides, with central plaques bordered by mitered banding and stringing on the front and top, lid opening to reveal two velvet-lined writing surfaces lifting over open wells, that in the base having row of open compartments with adjustable dividers, open, 38cm wide, 45cm deep, 7cm high (15in wide, 18in deep, 3 1/2in high). Footnotes: Provenance Includes note identifying the Pulitzer Prize-winning American novelist Booth Tarkington (1869-1946) as a former owner. Lot to be sold without reserve.
